Imagine yourself under a palm tree looking out at crystal clear 80 degree water and six foot waves. Kip and his highly trained, friendly staff can make your surf travel the ultimate safe surf trip complete with your own surfing lifeguard/coach interpretor, equipment handler and guide. Light or rough water surfing experience available. We can take you from whatever surfing level you are on to the next, in three or four easy steps with Kip’s advanced teaching technique.

Kip brings 33 years of Lifeguard experience, and Big Wave Surfing. Member of two World Championship teams one in Surfing and one in Lifeguarding Competition. Kip has taught surfing to over 35,000 junior lifeguards, inner city children and 350 Blind to medium and severely handicapped children since 1975.

Beginners:
Starting off with surfboards especially designed for the beginner and larger surfer in mind, Kip’s technique is guaranteed to have you up and riding within 30 to 40 minutes. Kanoa will show you a 20 minute on the sand do’s and don’ts technique, how to stand and how to fall. Then he will go out in the water with you to correct anything you are doing wrong to get you up and riding in short order.

Advanced Surfers:
For the advanced surfer Kanoa will show him Competition techniques, paddling and advanced ocean knowledge readability, limitations, wave speeds, barrel riding, aerials and combinations. Kanoa’s staff can educate the surfer on conditions, currents, how to enter and exit each surf spot, wave judgement, timing and special yoga stretches designed for surfers. He will point out indigenous sea life that inhabit the area of your choice. Ayur Veda ( health food) cooking lessons add $40.00 per one hour, per session.
Since the waves break on islands coming from deep water swells onto shallow abrupt reefs, the wave has much more power and speed in the tropics. For example a wave moving California at roughly five to ten miles an hour in Hawaii can move up to 30 plus an hour. This takes extreme adjustment to oceanic knowledge that Kip offers in his advanced course. . Kip can maximize even the mature surfers experience with simple proven hands on technical analysis.

Culture:
Kip will plug you into the culture using his 30 years of experience dealing with the people in all locations.

All destinations have translators that can help you get the best prices on all your equipment and goods, show you the best surf breaks, point out places of interest in each country and take you to exquisite restaurants.

Most frequently asked questions:

1. Is it safe where I’m going? Are the people friendly? Bali has extremely friendly and honest people living there, see uluwaturesort.com in the country, and Sandot Mas Bungalows, e-mail sandatmass@yahoo.com. Costa Rica, Mexico, and Hawaii you should error on the side of caution when it comes to valuables, except at Eugenes Bed and Breakfast. Eugene’s phone number in Costa Rica is 011-506-844-9710.

2. Will I be able to surf some of the advanced surf spots being a beginner or an intermediate surfer? The answer is, yes you can. Where there is good advanced surf breaking, right around the corner exist small beginning or intermediate waves. Most advanced surf spots can be surfed by the intermediate surfer at high tide. Our friendly staff can direct you daily to these surf spots. They will direct you on how and where to enter and exit the water safely at each spot.

3. Can I start off on small waves when beginning to tow in surf? The answer is yes. We recommend you start off towing in on 2-3’ waves in the beginning, and working up at your own speed. We can put you into as large of surf as you would feel comfortable, accompanied by my certified Big wave riders / lifeguards.

4. Is this a good trip for my family (see Costa Rica, and Bali, photos). Yes . While some countries are more kid friendly right now. I would have to put Costa Rica, Bali , and Hawaii at the head of the list.

5. Travel tips: Keep well stretched, and hydrated on all the flights. Drink a lot of water when you get to your destination.

6. Should I get any shots before I go one a long trip such as a malaria shot? My experience has been no, do not get a shot . Always confirm with your own Medical Doctor before leaving.

7. Are the surf spots rocky or sandy breaks? We will be surfing both. Prepare for both with a little pair of lace up short cut booties. Body Glove, and O’neil both make good ones.

8. Daily surf pack is as follows: Dry bathing suit, wet suit, towel, sun screen, booties, water, wax, sun glasses, fin screw, hat, book and money.

9. When we bring our children on this trip what sort of other events can we all do? To start with, horse back riding, jet skiing, water fall swimming ( see photos ). Zip Lining, skin diving, scuba diving, kayaking, cave exploring, reptile, and bird Zoos, shopping, parachuting, 4 wheeling, kite surfing. It all depends on the location. Some areas have more events than others.

10..Can I bring my own animal? Yes, some airlines have decompression for their luggage areas which is safe for animals. Some hotels allow for pets.

11. Are there any mosquitos where I’m going? Some places like Uluwatu in Bali and Dominical in Costa Rica at Eugenes place, have little or no mosquitos. Other areas watch out. 12. How to pack your surf board: Remove or secure fins. Fold up a large towel or use large bubble wrap for the tail, nose and wrap center of the surfboard 3 times - a sleeping bag will do. Place that into a light board bag, and then into a large box or travel surf bag. Always bring your long board and short surf board, if possible. The surfboard baggage cost is usually $75.00 per board. Sometimes you can get away with wrapping two boards together and paying for one.
